Combat Exam

Event Type: Mandatory
Participants: All
Timeslots: Late Morning to Mid Afternoon.

Reputation Affected: Yes
Description: This event is broken up into three separate events that comprise the whole event. The three events are Combat Exam, Knowledge Exam, and Force Exam; these exams are each off three times in the day one in the Late Morning, one in the Early Afternoon and one in the Mid Afternoon time slot.

Exams in the Late Morning time slot have a Difficulty of Easy. Exams in the Early Afternoon have a difficulty of Average, and the Exams in Mid Afternoon are Hard difficulty. There are two rolls made per time slot. Each exam has a different set of rolls to be made. Players must complete all rolls.

Options for skills: Lightsaber is mandatory for one of the two Combat skills, Gunnery is not acceptable as a combat skill. You can not do any skill more than once. You need a success on the roll for it to count and that grants an Exam point. If a Triumph is rolled that is also a success on the Lightsaber roll it counts as two Exam points. Any threat rolled is taken as Strain damage. A Despair turns strain damage into wounds at a minimum of 1 wound. If a Triumph is rolled for a non-Lightsaber skill it is a success even if it would normally fail, it has no added bonus if the roll is success.

Sylvain had passed his test on knowledge, but it was the physical exam that probably had him most worried.

He had devoted the last few months to trying to improve his lightsaber capabilities, but on this day it still wasn't enough.

He cursed to himself after failing his first test barely, but refocused his mind and put together a scrappy defense of himself that took his opponent down on the ground.

Rolls:
1eA+1eP+1eB+2eD: 1 failure, 2 advantage

2eA+1eB+2eD: 2 successes, 1 threat

(1 success, 3 total for the event. 1 strain lost, 1 to replace it)

After easily passing the knowledge portion of the exam, Khalim calmly walks into the center of the ring devoted to students showing what they knew of combat.

Taking a moment's pause to inwardly focus, he draws his training saber and activates hit. His feet move quickly throughout the training circle as he performs a series of practiced parries and deflections of attacks, before he moves in for the kill on his demonstration opponent. The balance of defense and aggression show quite clearly that he has studied some of the Niman technique already in life.

When the instructors point him toward a blaster pistol sitting on a table in front of a target range, he gives a brief inquisitive raise of his eyebrow, before shrugging and walking over to the table. He picks up the pistol with a clear distaste that says he prefers his saber, aims it at the targets, and proceeds to hit each of them in turn.

Thorne had performed with the lightsaber and proved her talent and then given a chance to be more hands pounded a student into the dirt with her bloody fists. She left the field of combat scars but the other student didn’t leave at all.

OOC: 2 Exam Points and 2 Threat.

Thorne Lightsaber - Event Day 2: 1eA+2eP+2eD+1eS 1 success

Well. Combat wasn't Moyr's strong suit bu she was not a pushover either. How hard can it be to use the lightsaber? was it not her Destiny to prove her mettle in the canonical skill?

Nope! She couldn't get the range right and scon found herself with the threatening buzz at her throat. How wonderful.

Lightsaber: 1F http://orokos.com/roll/446399

But she at least knew how to fire a blaster! A miss? No kidding. Something's wrong with the equipment probably. The cool kids get better weapons, it must be that.

But let's keep smiling. It's a beautiful catastrophe.

Ranged (Light): 1F 3A http://orokos.com/roll/446400

Maybe she'll be a comical relief for all those stern Darths? They smile so seldom.

This was the first time she'd be fighting with a laser sword; nay, lightsaber; and it showed. The way she gripped the hilt marked her as someone who had no training. No skill. There might have been some laughter from the audience. What was this pathetic slave doing trying to stand among the Sith? What a joke! Look at her stance, it's completely useless!

No, wait a second.

No, it was true she'd had no formal training, but there was raw talent there. Talent beyond what one would expect from a student, much less a former slave. A few in the audience had picked up on it while the rest had laughed; but soon enough her opponent found himself overwhelmed, the surprise among the audience audible. This girl was not to be dismissed. Especially given her opponent had been hand-picked to be tougher than usual. Indeed, one might go so far as to call her a prodigy. One person in the audience, the overseer, might even note that she appeared to have learned a thing or two from that personal demonstration the other day. Of course, she would interpret that however she might.

Next she picked up a knife. With her exemplary performance in the lightsaber part of the exam, the regular melee seemed almost like a formality. One that she performed well enough in, easily overcoming whatever stress the preceding part had provided her with.

Combat! Now this was more like it. She loved the sounds stupid humans made as they died! She strode forward with confidence . . . overconfidence it proved to be as she proceeded to fail to show any of the proper lightsaber forms. When the examiner showed the failure signal she swore in several different languages and marched over to the blaster range. Grabbing a rifle she proceeded to shoot angrily at the targets, which would have also resulted in a failure if she hadn't managed to focus her anger, as the Sith Code demanded, and grasp victory from the jaws of defeat with a blistering sequence of head shots.
