This was the first time she'd be fighting with a laser sword; nay, lightsaber; and it showed. The way she gripped the hilt marked her as someone who had no training. No skill. There might have been some laughter from the audience. What was this pathetic slave doing trying to stand among the Sith? What a joke! Look at her stance, it's completely useless!
No, wait a second.
No, it was true she'd had no formal training, but there was raw talent there. Talent beyond what one would expect from a student, much less a former slave. A few in the audience had picked up on it while the rest had laughed; but soon enough her opponent found himself overwhelmed, the surprise among the audience audible. This girl was not to be dismissed. Especially given her opponent had been hand-picked to be tougher than usual. Indeed, one might go so far as to call her a prodigy. One person in the audience, the overseer, might even note that she appeared to have learned a thing or two from that personal demonstration the other day. Of course, she would interpret that however she might.
Next she picked up a knife. With her exemplary performance in the lightsaber part of the exam, the regular melee seemed almost like a formality. One that she performed well enough in, easily overcoming whatever stress the preceding part had provided her with.
