Zeno enters the training yard and moves to the training saber collection. He begins fiddling with them and switches out two of their training emitters, pocketing his crystals. He then goes about looking for Jaina Von. He wanted to see how much he had improved.

"I was. But after my corpse killed Death's Shadow I thought it might take another shot at being not dead," he replies. "My ghost has been studying and I think it may have learned a thing or two about not being dead."

She reaches out and pulls a double bladed training saber to her hand. She says calmly, “Is this a challenge?”

OOC: Flip a Destiny to use Move.

Well this was interesting. Jo'ren was training some students, performing his regular duties before the Dark Council meeting. He gestured for them to continue their drills as the strange little scene began to play out in the yard.

Jaina is motionless for a moment and then says, “Come, dead man.”

Zeno circled her, his senses telling him that there were very few weaknesses in this one... that she was using the same technique he was... that even if he lost this bout he was on the correct path to be as powerful as she was one day. That thought was only a moment. He moved in to strike but did not find purchase. She was quick, but he was likely surprisingly quick to her as well.

She gave a brief nod of respect as his strikes put her on the defensive briefly before she flips backward and then springs upwards and does a flip whirling the double sides lightsaber turning herself into a whirling death machine and Zeno feels searing pain as her feet lightly tap on his should and she kicks off landing behind him.

He saw the nod, just barely as he brought his shoto up in the way of the first strike making nearly no difference to the attack. When he felt the second strike his mind went blank and his body went numb. He fell to the ground, knees first and then face planting. He felt nothing about the situation, being unconscious as he was.

Jaina grabs a bucket and douses him with water, rousing him.

She says, “You are dead, but not as dead as you were. You might actually be almost alive.”

OOC: Zeno recovers 1 strain.

He shakes his head. "So it would seem. I'll need to drag my corpse to more lessons."

He finds his way to his feet... almost, falling back to his knees once before eventually standing tall. He picks up his sabers and sheaths them.

“I have spent years mastering the art, you have come far in six weeks. You may be almost ready,” she says with a nod.

“To not be dead.”

"And I spend just as many years in the same pursuit," he replies. "Someday I will be not dead once more."

He takes a deep breath.

"Again, I appreciate the lesson Instructor Von."

With the show over Jo'ren returned to focusing on the students and correcting their faults. Ataru fighters were always fun to watch, and seeing Jaina's take down of the red-skinned human was quite beautiful. Even more so than his own match against that Zabrak.

He had gotten to know Jaina rather well over the previous three weeks and was starting to get a better handle on how she operated. He pushed the students harder, they all had a long way to go before she would acknowledge them as 'living' beings.

Zeno moved to the training saber table to put the training emitters back in their proper place, and his returned his crystals to their shoto.

“I expect you both are probably some of the best I have trained from this group,” she says to both aspirants.

“Jo’ren, these kids look tired, they need laps to wake them up.”

The big sith deactivated his blades and clapped his hands loudly.

"You heard the Master of Arms! Twenty laps. Last one back runs twenty more." He watched the panic and then they were off. "Meatbags."

He approached her and bowed his head. "Thank you my Lord." He looked at the other man, taking note of his appearance and stance, which was perhaps rather impacted by the strain of being knocked unconscious.

Zeno approached after the sabers were taken care of. "Agreed, Instructor Von," he says bowing his head.

He nodded and smiled at the question. Her attempts at small talk were almost sweet.

"I have found a Master who encourages me to further hone my combat skills and insights my Lord. I believe it is a good match that will prove advantageous." He still had plenty more secrets to uncover along the path to becoming the next Savant.

"I will be apprentice to Lord Zash," he says in a neutral tone. "It is not the front lines, but there is opportunity to face old and dangerous threats buried in the dark places of the galaxy. To test my skill against creatures that have grown powerful on ancient lore teach them that the blade is not a trifle."

“Lord Zash is well known,” she says with no judgment.

She turns back to the students running and says, “That is all.”

Jaina nods and says, “No journey is ever expected until it is traveled… I guess.”

“I don’t have good cryptic words.”
