The Dark Academy on Korriban

"Then what good is it to me? I'm not a swordsmith."

“It has power, it has soaked itself in the energies of Korriban since the days of your ancestor. I had thought it a curiosity but I see now the Force guided me to it and you to me,” he said with confidence.

He stopped to examine a rock.

“Korriban provides for those who earn it.”

"Alright," she was willing to go with it. Maybe it *did* have power. Maybe it could be fixed. Or maybe it was just a piece of junk. But it was an opportunity.

"So, where is it?"

“Huh, oh yes… just over here,” he gestured over the edge of the cliff at a lower outcropping some twenty meters down with a pool of brackish water pooling. “There is a cave on that outcropping, I left it there. I had no use for it.”

“I am sure you know how to climb.”

OOC: Average Athletics with a Setback die due to the scarcity of hand holds.

Yeah sure. Okay. You just left it there.

She sighed. Part of her thought this was a trick. But then, what did she have to lose?

"I'll manage."

And down she went; hopefully managing to hold on despite what looked like a misgrab at some point.

She slid down about three meters but landed on her feet in the brackish waters. Her arms were scraped up but she was fine. There was the cave entrance just as Spindral had said.

The entrance looked more like a screaming mouth, inside being darker than was possible.

OOC: Layne suffers 1 strain from the Threat.

Fortunately, a glow rod was one of the things she'd managed to bring with her. Turning it on, she proceeded onward, to find this illusive broken sword.

The interior was silent with glinting pieces of blackened metal laying on the ground and an old exposed corpse that had been whittled down by sand strewn wind to bones and ratty clothing.

Lying in the center of the chamber was a broken blade, even shattered she could feel the palpable rage coming off the blade.

Well, well... looks like he wasn't full of shit

She moved over to pick it up, and assuming she didn't get blasted with visions or lightning or anything, she'd pick up the rest of the pieces that she could find too. Who knows, could be useful. That done, she studied the blade a bit more intently; to see how it might be of use to her. To see what she could figure out about it. And while she was at it, maybe she'd look around to see if there was anything else of use or value in the cave.

She tried to do that whole force thing again; to see what that'll do for her.

The broken sword feels light in her hands and looks sharp even if it is no larger than a dagger now with the broken blade. But that does not seem to be the power within it, the blade seems to whisper, though no voice can be heard and yet she knows that it wants to see violence again.

OOC: The blade, as long as kept on her person, will remove one Setback die, but also reduce her Strain Threshold by 1. The dark force energies take a strain on the psyche.

She wasn't sure she fully understood its power. But regardless, it seemed like it could help her somehow and that was good enough for now. Satisfied, she stowed the blade away, moved out of the cave, and started to climb back up; something that inexplicably seemed easier now.

She pulls herself up over the edge to find a speeder with Imperial soldiers looking at her quizzically. One turns to another and then one of them said to Layne, “My lord, are you injured?”

Spindral was nowhere to be seen.

OOC: Suffer 1 strain for the climb but Triumph gets you rescued.

Another one caller her lord. Was he mocking her? He knew she wasn't a lord, right? Or was this some sort of imperial greeting? She looked around, wondering where the old man had gone, but not finding a trace of him, she turned back to the imperials.

"No," she stated with all the confidence and contempt one might expect from a lord. She was probably still covered in a bit of blood from earlier in the day, but then that hadn't been hers.

"Take me back to the academy."

((Wait, so... does that mean she gets back like a timeslot earlier, giving me another slot to work with, since she was going to get rescued anyway?))

The Imperials comply. They direct her to get in the back of the speeder where a corpse was laid out under a gray sheet. The soldiers once satisfied everything was secure started the journey back to the Academy.

She would take a look at the corpse to see if it was anyone she recognized, but other than it was smooth speeding home. Wherever the fuck home was.
