Post subject:  HELP! - Reading Habits of Gamers

As part of a research methods course for my MLIS (Master of Library/Information Science) degree I need to compile information on a community's reading habits. I need between 10-15 participants which is a little under the total number of people at this game. So, I was hoping you guys would take just a little time to answer four brief "interview" questions. Feel free to either post your answers here or, if you're more comfortable PM me. There may be some follow up questions if I need clarification on one point or another, but the initial questions are fairly straight forward.

Any information I gather here will only be available to myself and my professor and no names or identifying attributes will be used when I write up my analysis. All information will be codified and completely anonymous. If you have any questions PM me and I'll get to them ASAP.

The research analysis need to be handed in Sunday so if participants could get me their responses no later than Saturday so I have time to finish my analysis I would be eternally grateful.

Interview Questions

1) How often do you read either professionally, personally, or academically? (e.g. everyday, once every other day, one book a month, etc.) This can include any form of published written material including, but not limited to the following: Books, e-books, journals, e-journals, magazines (or periodicals), online articles, etc.

2) Please list 10 to 15 of your most recent read materials. Please include tile (of either the book or the article. In the case of articles please mention the specific physical or online publication), category (if known; e.g. adult fiction, young adult fiction, non-fiction), genre (for fiction; e.g. mystery, fantasy, science fiction, horror) or topic (for non-fiction; e.g. art, anthropology, biology, history, philosophy, etc.)

3) What are your 5 preferred topics or genres when selecting reading material?

4) Do you read primarily for work (professionally), for school (academically), or for "fun" (personally)?

Tomorrow at the latest if able. I need time to collect the results and analyze them. Thanks for the help you guys.

That said, even with the above, I still need 3 more participants at minimum. And 6 would be better.

Okay, here goes:

1) How often do you read either professionally, personally, or academically?

Every day or so if counting your average online non-technical articles; maybe once a month/2 months if we're counting full-on books, although I go through phases where either I read a lot, or barely at all.

2) Please list 10 to 15 of your most recent read materials

  • The Naked God, Peter F. Hamilton, Science Fiction
  • The Neutronium Alchemist, Peter F. Hamilton, Science Fiction
  • The Reality Dysfunction, Peter F. Hamilton, Science Fiction
  • Great North Road, Peter F. Hamilton, Science Fiction
  • The Mechanical, Ian Tregillis, Alternative History Fantasy/Steampunk
  • Deepsix, Jack McDevitt, Science Fiction
  • The Engines of God, Jack McDevitt, Science Fiction
  • Use of Weapons, Ian M. Banks, Science Fiction
  • The Temporal Void, Peter F. Hamilton, Science Fiction
  • The Player of Games, Ian M. Banks, Science Fiction
  • The Gap Into Power: A Dark and Hungry God Arises, Stephen R. Donaldson, Science Fiction
  • Look to Windward, Ian M. Banks, Science Fiction
  • The Hydrogen Sonata, Ian M. Banks, Science Fiction
  • Ancillary Justice, Ann Leckie, Science Fiction
  • Ready Player One, Cline Ernest, Science Fiction

(wow a load of sci-fi there... sorry, can't remember the various online articles and the like I'll have read, which would be a more varied list I think. Of course, there's the Force and Destiny corebook aswell, but I wasn't sure if I should list that as well)

3) What are your 5 preferred topics or genres when selecting reading material?

  • Science Fiction
  • History
  • Fantasy
  • Sociology
  • Horror

4) Do you read primarily for work (professionally), for school (academically), or for "fun" (personally)?

For fun.

Just a friendly nudge for people to get their responses to me if at all possible by today. The earlier the better.

I'm still missing 3 respondents.
