The Korriban Academy
The Academy at Korriban is a proving ground for young Sith but rarely does one start there. It tends to be the end of a young Sith’s journey. Most Sith are trained off world at smaller training centers or with a master. Many Sith never pass through the halls of the Academy, often coming from prestigious bloodlines or far from far flung worlds, but it is considered a fact that the most successful Sith are forged in the crucible of the Academy.
The Academy can be a stepping stone to greatness as one can become an apprentice to a mighty Sith Lord or even Darth, which will often bring about more accolades and advancement through the circuitous world of Sith politics if that is one’s goal. It is also beneficial to the masters as it shows their power by claiming a young Sith graduate of the Academy. Particularly prized students may become the focus of dangerous politics, as Sith Lords vie for a talented or powerful pupil.
The Academy is also the seat of power of the Sith, on the highest floors is where the Dark Council meets. Such locations are off limits to students but that rarely stops an enterprising student from trying to sneak in or explore the restricted upper chambers. The rest of the Academy is a sprawling complex of red stone an clean metallic interiors, it is a foreboding place that exalts the Sith. It overlooks several tomb complexes that dot the planet, many of which are still unexplored. It is a dangerous place with violent wild life, greedy treasure hunters, and the force-mad wretches. This does not even cover the proliferation of dark force spirits that haunt the many crypts and tombs.
In general the tombs and crypts are off-limits to students but in practice many Sith will often task young students to prove themselves by finding artifacts and knowledge in the tombs and returning. Such challenges are often ways of teaching a young Sith self-reliance, it can also be a way for an instructor or master to make a troublesome student disappear.
There are few rules at the Academy but the two most important is that one must follow the directives of the Instructors and that a student cannot kill another student. Yet as with all things Sith there are exceptions, and it is in the ingenuity of finding or exploiting loopholes that a student can stand out. Outright murder is always frowned upon and will often lead to execution or expulsion, depending on the allies of the student.
Although instructors hold all the power, it should be noted that any Sith of significant rank can punish a student if they so choose and will rarely face direct repercussions. It is a dangerous place but if one can navigate the politics and complete their training, then they too will be a true Sith and able to seize the reigns of power.
