Foreseen Betrayal

Event Type: Bonus, Combat
Participants: 3 PCs
Timeslots: Early Evening

Reputation Affected: No
Description: Lord Savas has found a hidden chamber in the ruined structure. There seem to be Force bound and technological seals in place that are possibly failing He does not want that to happen and thankfully he has some backup and prior knowledge thanks to Nunki’s vision.

The players have to choose one of two paths, they can aid in sealing the barriers or they open the seals and face whatever is inside. Sealing the barriers requires a skill roll of their choice but no two players can pick the same skill versus Hard difficulty but with a boost die from Lord Savas as he channels dark side energy to aid in the sealing process. They may add Force to this roll with dark side spent as success or advantage.

Or they can choose the combat Option which is at least Death’s Shadow if not higher and probably super unfair.

Rewards: Participating players gain 1 Graduation point or 3 Graduation Points if they choose combat. Nunki gets a Graduation point for the warning. If the combat event is defeated all players gain 10 bonus XP. I repeat this is a dangerous encounter.

OOC: This is a highly dangerous encounter that can be avoided.

Having heard that Lord Savas was looking for volunteers Jo'ren decided to help the old git. He wasn't entirely sure what to expect but it was bound to be interesting. Not that interesting was always a good thing of course.

Turning up armed and armoured, just in case, he walked through the structure and eventually came to the doors to the hidden chamber. "I hear you are looking for volunteers my Lord."

(OOC: Since no one seems to be stepping up, here I am. Note that I'm perfectly happy not to take the combat route, so don't take my appearance to mean it has to go that way. Jo'ren can always hold the doors shut or something).

Jun-Tsu stepped out of the night to join the small gathering. "I heard zhat as vell, mein Lord."

She turned towards the sealed chamber then up towards the walls and back where she'd come. "Zhere iz a great powver at vork here. It iz most impressive."

Khalim also walks in, and scans the area with his eyes. Also armed and armored, though his armor is the same fine clothing he tends to wear, he's prepared for any direction the encounter might go.

"Impressive."

He then turns his attention to Lord Savas, "How might I assist, my Lord?"

Lord Savas says, “A powerful force user, perhaps Sith is sealed by the bonds. Ancient Sith trapped for perhaps millennia are usually bad for one’s health. I can channel the force needed to seal this entity, but I need your aid to refresh the seals.”

“Of course if you decide you want to meet whatever was worth sealing up here, be my guest, youthful optimism is not my strongpoint, and I shall retreat to a safe distance. Decide quickly, aspirants.”

Jun-Tsu offered a passive glance to their masked professor, "I am not for fool-hearty endeawers but I must ask, are ve forzaking knowledge for zhe zake of safety? Are ve lozing opportunity because of caution? Zhat doez not zeem zhe vay of zhe Sith....if v'one haz a care about zuch zhings."

It was clear she was apathetic on the philosophy.

Lord Savas gives a shrug and no answer.

She hadn't quite decided whether she found his answer, or lack there of, indication of sense or cowardice. Her eyes flicked to the other two men with her. "I confess a certain curiosity as to zhe nature of zhis figure or force vhich has been bound here, vhether beast or man, but I dare not face it on my own. If ve truly beliewe ve might prewail, ewen at a cost, it might be vorth such risk. But, zhat iz reliant on how confident zhe two of you might be in your skillz."

He shrugs to the strange seer, "Prudence would indicate that we should simply seal the wards, as someone must have had a good reason for creating them in the first place. I would, however, admit that I have some curiosity about whatever might be imprisoned, and why, as it is clearly a part of the history of my ancestors."

He supposes then, "Perhaps the greatest wisdom would be to seal it now, and then come back once we have gained more power and are more likely of being capable of dealing with whatever is within?"

Jun-Tsu nodded gravely in agreement. "It vould be prudent. I've too little skill yet properly defend againzt zuch a potentially powverful foe. In time zhough it vould be best not to let zhis rest. It leawes potential threatz zhat may become unbound of zheir own accord or zimple blundering."

Jo'ren shrugged. "Well, Lord Savas has already pointed out to me that being a Sith is about more than just having a lightsaber. So if we're sealing it up that's fine."

He looked at the others, nodding to Khalim. "On the other hand I'm confident in my abilities. What do we know about who or whatever is locked up in there?"

He chuckles then, "Little to nothing. I'm also quite confident in my own abilities, but I'm not confident in what we know of -their's-. I prefer to know my enemy a bit better before I engage."

"Fair enough. Knowing something would be good. Beyond 'a powerful force user'." He gave Khalim a small smile.

"I expect Lord Savas would be happy to help us do the research. After we help him with the seals."

Lord Savas adds, “Koro, a Sith ascetic who has mastered a deadly form of lightsaber combat that killed many of his kin, his master and countless Sith before they sealed him in. You would know this if… never mind. Koro the Betrayer is a lightsaber savant, a prodigy who slaughtered his whole order simply to prove his form as perfection.”

“I doubt time has been kind to his psyche.”

He smiles then, "Sounds like someone you'd want to use a turbolaser battery on. The wards certainly sound like a better option if he's unlikely to be reasoned with, and is a master lightsaber combatant, which I doubt any of us can claim. Perhaps later on he can be dealt with properly to no longer pose a threat of an aspirant accidentally releasing him."

Again, Jun-Tsu could offer little more than a nod of agreement. They were, technically, not even Sith yet, and the notion of going against not only a Sith master, but a prodigy at that, seemed to be little more than a fool's errand. Still, her mind kept wandering to what treasures were being sealed away with the spirit. What knowledge they were denying themselves for the sake of their own survival.

She sighed, then looked to Lord Savas who would be leading them.

Killing a Sith apprentice does not make one a lightsaber savant Jo'ren. Listening to Lord Savas the big red guy nodded and cracked the muscles in his neck. "Sounds like the kind of guy of like to come back and deal with once I've graduated.". He looked at Lord Savas. "But I'm told that not all problems can be solved with a lightsaber. So what do you suggest?"

"I suggest the seals, if so, there are a variety of techniques to seal them as I channel the dark side to empower the wards once more," he says with a nod.

"Rakata technology is useful at times."

OOC: The players have to choose one of two paths, they can aid in sealing the barriers or they open the seals and face whatever is inside. Sealing the barriers requires a skill roll of their choice but no two players can pick the same skill versus Hard difficulty but with a boost die from Lord Savas as he channels dark side energy to aid in the sealing process. They may add Force to this roll with dark side spent as success or advantage. They need two of the three seals to be successful; players can use advantage to assist other players; 1 for the next person to roll or 3 to target a specific player.

Knowledge: Lore (Intellect) - 2eP+1eA+3eD+1eB+1eF = 3 successes, 1 Dark Side (2 Dark Side) = 2 successes, 2 advantage total.

Jun-Tsu had grown to know more about Rakata technology, herself, especially how it manipulated the Dark Side. Raising her arms, she set her hands into almost unnatural configurations, bent back with clawed like fingers. Delicately she seemed to manipulate the Force through her gestures as thin whisps began to dot the air around her until they coalesced into fine contrails of energy. They moved over, around, and through her, directed at her motions, her body practically glowing with their unnatural emerald light.

The way she manipulated the Dark Side seemed almost to call out to it more, drawing it to her in great waves. No doubt those around her would benefit from such powerful invocations.

(Next person can get a Boost Die!)

Khalim's technique of manipulating the Dark Side of the Force into the wards is far more traditionalist, focusing on raw willpower and trained discipline to coerce the Force to bend to his wishes. As he forces more and more of the power of the Dark Side into the wards, the seal he is focusing on once again becomes secure.

Forseen Betrayal - Discipline (Willpower) - Boost Die From Jun-Tsu: 2eA+2eP+2eB+3eD+1eF 4 successes, 1 Light Side

Sadly, no spare advantages to pass on, but we got 2/3 so far.

Watching the others Jo'ren realised that someone was going to have to add some physical power to this process. Fortunately that was his specialty. The force didn't help him, but whatever Lord Savas did worked well as he was channelled full of dark energy.

As one of the seals started to buckle, Jo'ren moved up and grabbed it, physically restraining it and holding it in position until the others could channel enough energy to bind it. It challenged his big muscles, but eventually they were finished, and all of the seals appeared to be holding.

Lord Savas sighs, “It’s done.”

“The seals should hold, a more than satisfactory victory. This could have been much worse than it was. Now get back to your studies, you will be properly rewarded for your services to the Academy and Empire.”

OOC: All three earn a Graduation Point and a bonus of 250 credits each.

Jun-Tsu bowed her head in a formal gestured to Lord Savas then, wordlessly returned to the dark corridors of the unearthed complex. Back to her studies, back to banality. She heaved a mental sigh as she walked the ancient halls wondering again at what ancient knowledge they had just denied themselves for the Force knew how long.

Jo'ren also bowed to Lord Savas, but did not immediately leave. "My Lord, can you tell which texts I need to find to learn more about this Koro?". His curiosity was in overdrive, but he did his best to keep it from his voice.
