Not that she liked going to the instructors for this, but when a Sith had to make their own lightsaber... well, no cutting corners, right? Besides, she hoped perhaps Lord Savas could give some insight into some of the older techniques of lightsaber construction.

Ready for the day, Shaisha sought out Lord Savas in the camp.

Lord Savas was seated at a desk in an open tent inspecting the finds from the previous day. He does not bother to look up and says, “Aspirant, Shaisha, to what do I owe the pleasure of your company?”

His tone seems to imply the opposite.

"Lord Savas," she greets the teacher with the respect due to his station.

"I am working on constructing a lightsaber hilt, and would like to ask you for insight on some of of the older techniques used by the Sith for crafting such."

"No one respects the classics, it's all spikes and menace now a days," he says wistfully.

"What did you want to know of the ancient techniques?"

"Well, there's the aesthetics, as you already mentioned, but I was curious of the differences in the construction between the current techniques and the ancient ones. I would prefer to have a lightsaber that is more true to my heritage, as well as to honor the history of the Sith."

"After the transition from Protosabers to the more modern lightsabers, there must've been changes made to the construction, considering that the Jedi had time to develop on that technology after meeting it for the first time in the Great Hyperspace War up until the aftermath of the Mandalorian Wars."

(OOC: Player has no idea about what *actually* goes into lightsaber construction. )

“Construction is actually pretty simple, the pieces are fairly common now that we understand how to properly power them and focus the crystal to create the energy blade. At the core is a power source, a focus ring, the containment module and the crystal. These are the core components needed to create a working lightsaber,” he says.

“From there it comes down to aesthetic and design, some entomb their weapons in a tooth or bone or highly polished metal. Jedi designs I have studied tend toward simplicity. Sith designs tend to emphasize action and aggression. I prefer simple, but if you wish to go with a more ancient aesthetic the ancient Sith were fond of utilizing trophies in their designs.”

“Teeth, bones…metal taken from a fallen foes weapon, it was said to grant them power over death.”

"Guess I prefer it simple too then," she gives a small nod. "So say a bone or a tooth could be worked into the hilt... the more powerful the opponent, the more power over death?"

"That is the basic, primitive, idea, yes," he says in response.

"Didn't some lightsabers have decorations like gemstones or precious metals?"

“Yes.”

“Some like to accessorize their weapons like high society nobles accessorize their pets and jewelry. A lightsaber can be an expression of the user or a utilitarian tool, it really depends on the mindset of the individual Sith. If you like gaudy baubles, have at it,” he says gesturing to her lightsaber.

"Wasn't planning to, Lord Savas," she chuckles softly. "Merely thinking of what I've read in some accounts."

"Finding a middle-ground between tradition and simplicity will be the goal for this Shoto-hilt, then."

(OOC: Can I make my construction roll with assistance from Savas, or will his lesson merely grant a bonus on that roll in the future if he's not helping me out? :D )

OOC: You can use his intellect if you do it now, that is Intellect 5.

“I look forward to what you consider the middle ground,” he says with no enthusiasm.

(OOC: Oh yeah, I'll do it with his guidance! XD Dat sweet smart-pants of Lord Savas!)

Shaisha was growing used to Savas' lack of enthusiasm, to the point where she felt that if he wasn't getting worked up to shout at her, she was doing a decent enough job.

She set out everything she had assembled for the task and began to construct the Shoto-hilt under his guidance. It was much easier this way than it was trying to do it on her own, as it was always a big difference in moving from the purely theoretical points of construction to actually doing the deed.

All in all, she felt she did a very satisfactory job.

“Remember the light end goes inside the enemy,” he adds with a nod.

“At least it should not blow up when you use it.”

She chuckles calmly at his joke. Or attempt at it. Or whatever it was that was Savas' humor. "I appriciate the heads-up about its use, and I very much appriciated your guidance, Lord Savas."

He sighs and says, “It is my duty to see that the next generation of Sith are not completely worthless.”

“Though in your case given your lineage, you might actually be worth all the effort.”

She dips her head in appriciation of what was probably the highest form of praise from the Sith lord. "I know you don't offer praise lightly, my lord. I'm honored you think well of me."

"I won't take up more of your time. Thank you for your guidance," she collects her work and bows to the older Sith as she leaves.
