The Dark Academy on Korriban

The Twi'lek fed on the paste, trying to not look too angry. Deep inside, she tried to stem bloodthirsty vindictiveness from taking hold. Thinking about nice, pleasant things that were not there. What made her even angrier.

A Mirialan female entered the mess hall, looking slightly fatigued, slightly cheerful, and slightly wrathful. After grabbing a supply of nutrient paste, she scans the room for an appropriate seat. Finding them all about equally discouraging, she decides to take her chances.

"I'm Sarna," she says to the seething rage that she's not sure the origin of. "We can eat and be frustrated together, if you'd like."

"Sure."

Moyr managed not to seethe, though her voice was raspier than the usual. She gave the greenskin a semi-curious look.

"What is your reason to be?"

Sarna raised an eyebrow at the accent as she sat. Then cracked a smile and shook her head a little. "Well, giving up on being doesn't sound very appealing..." She looked at the other woman, half serious, half just curious how she'd react.

"Truly. Mere being is not enough though, is it?"

Sarna adopts a more serious demeanor. "No, it isn't. Mere existence is..." The greenskin considers her words. "Existence alone is slavery. If existence is all we have, we fight for more--or we die." She looks at the other woman somewhat intensely, before softening a little and looking away. "So I guess my reason for continuing to be is freedom. Independence and the power to maintain it--yes, that sounds pretty good."

"Then welcome to my platform. I am Moyr."

Moyr said in a joking tone, though it may not have been a joke.

"So how do you wish to express your freedom?"

Sarna raises an eyebrow about the platform, but makes no comment on it.

"I'm embracing freedom a little bit at a time. My parents weren't interested in much more freedom for children than for slaves. Now that I'm here... " She shruggs and takes another bite of nutrient paste, which triggers a grimace. "Maybe I'll start showcasing my freedom by eating at the cantina instead of here."

"It is something I am going to do as well."

Moyr's smile flashed briefly.

"I wonder about your background now. It seems children are raised similarly on Mirial and Ryloth, so where does the emancipatory spirit come from?"

The Mirialan nods. "Yes, but my parents are hardly traditional. They felt stifled on Mirial, limited by the whole system." Sarna gestures vaguely to the small tattoos on her face. "So they fled the planet to start life on their terms. And they apparently missed the irony of people so worried about being free getting into the slave business." She shakes her head, taking a deep breath. "So no, I'm not your typical Mirialan. I've never even been to Mirial."

"So, a slavers' daughter?"

Moyr mused.

"You must have travelled in hyperspace quite a bit then. Visited many worlds?"
