The Dark Academy on Korriban

Slyvain was having trouble sleeping that night with all the different things going on in his day. He had plans upon plans, wide-spread and important, but quite mentally taxing. If he were to become like his master one day, he'd definitely have to grow into it a bit more.

Instead of nestling up for bed, Sylvain decided to push himself just a bit more. He found an empty cargo room packed with food and other supplies and pulled out his holopad. Dialing the proper code for his family's cipher he waited to see the face of his informant on the other end.

“Master Torsin, I am pleased you have reached me,” he says.

“Is this secure?”

He nodded, "As it can be given the circumstances."

He then looked at the man, "What is the status report?"

“I am on Ziost following a lead, my sources have you en route to Yavin IV. I have tracked an agent of Darth Baras’ to Ziost. Thus far they have eluded but I have other… troubling news,” he says calmly.

Sylvain nodded, "Speak."

“I believe this agent to be one of Darth Baras best, someone I only know as Magpie. A top assassin, I believe the target is the late Moff Serasai’s wife,” he says.

"Why? Serasai's wife can't be of any true consequence... Why would she be a target?" He asked.

“Just my observations. I don’t have a motive, maybe Baras is just removing the family from his equation. That or Lady Serasai knows something vital. I am trying to intercept without engaging Magpie,” he replies.

"What do you know about this 'magpie'?" He asked.

“Force sensitive I suspect, Sith maybe? A shadow. Gender is unknown, Magpie has extensive skills for compromising security. It was a pet project of your fathers to find out who this Magpie was and remove a dangerous agent of Darth Baras. Before I lost access to the Ministry network I was able to pull critical data that pointed to Ziost,” he says calmly.

“I do not believe I could face Magpie directly but it may be needed to save Lady Serasai if you deem it necessary. I could use Lady Serasai as bait and hopefully learn more information about Magpie.”

He nodded, "Keep me updated on Lady Serasai's schedule... I want to know if she's meeting anyone of import."

Then added, "Set your trap. Do try to keep both of them alive if at all possible."

“I will do what I can, my strengths lie in information gathering. She met with agents I service to Darth Marr recently, before that she was in custody of the Ministry and the Inquisitors. Other then that she has been seeing to her affairs,” he responds.

"If you can enlist her own bodyguards without tipping your hand, do so. I need this operation to work... I am running fairly short on ideas." He replied.

"Is there any other useful information you could provide about Baras? I was present in the council when he put Marr's lackey forward as the new Grand Moff. Who are his enemies now if Marr is appeased?"

“Vowrawn, would top that list, but I have no information on the extent of that feud. I doubt Marr is appeased but he won’t star a war for petty revenge. Marr’s weakness or strength is that he is a patriot. It’s a tool Baras has used to great effect. I have a theory, it’s an obvious one but a theory you could consider,” he says.

He nodded, "Go ahead."

“Vengean is the goal. Not sure how the pieces fit yet but everything Baras does currently strengthens Vengean. If Vengean were to fall, Baras would be a natural fit to move into his position. It’s obvious I know but I do not think Vengean sees Baras as a credible threat. Vengean is powerful, personally and politically. Much of his support though is built on Baras’ work,” he says.

“It’s only a theory but worth investigating. Darth Baras as a member of the Dark Council is not something your father would have wanted to see.”

He listened and nodded until the last comment was made, "Why not? It was my father who asked me to vie for Baras' attention. They supposedly respected each other... Why would he not wish to see Baras on the Council?"

Tyron is quiet and says, “I am not privy to that. Perhaps he respected him but also saw that Baras for all his gifts served himself over the good of the Empire. I can’t say, only speculate.”

He nodded, "I wonder if there is anything in my father's personal effects that would help give a bit more guidance... Perhaps I should call my mother. She was doing much better the last time I talked with her. Thank you for your concern. I'm guessing you haven't heard much chatter about hits called out on her or you would have led with that, correct?"

"I have no information on that," he says.

"Thank you agent... what should I call you?"

“My designation was Spectre-3, if you mean my name I currently utilize the alias Tyron Perth,” he responds.

"Thank you Spectre 3."

He smiled briefly and closed the comm line.

After taking a moment to process the conversation he dialed the number for his mother and waited.

It goes to an answering system after several attempts.

Sylvain smiles and records himself.

"Hello mother. I hope you are doing well. I was wondering about some of father's last wishes and was wondering if he kept some type of journal or other collection of memoirs. I'm assuming you would know if there was anything like that."

He smiled brightly, "Things go well here. We are on our way to Yavin. I hope you are feeling better and doing well... I have a matter of importance to speak to you about as well. It concerns a potential marriage partner. Please get back to me when you can."

He then bowed, "Until then carry the wisdom and strength of father. I carry his spirit. I love you."
