The Dark Academy on Korriban

Well it wasn't the best start to his duel unfortunately, but Jo'ren was able to deflect some of the incoming damage away and put his opponent in an even worse position for the next attack.

Still, he would need to gain ground, and quickly.

The Sith student was silent moving in and out of range of an attack and then pressed the advantage with a swift strike trying to cut Jo’ren in two. The two warriors clash the Sith student creating steam by allowing their lightsaber to brush the snow covered ground.

OOC: The Sith student strikes for another 8 damage and suffers 1 wound from the Threat, he does not have strain. Sith Student has Adversary 1, Melee Defense 2, and Sense active for one more Upgrade against a single attack.

It was now or never. Fortunately Jo'ren was able to regain some lost ground. As his opponent struck him he parried and returned a withering series of rapid strikes from his double-blade that would hopefully inflict severe damage. Snow sizzled as the energy struck the gentle flakes.

The assault gave him just enough breathing space to use a stimpack and recover some of the damage that had been done.

The Sith raises their crimson energy blade to direct the strikes away from vital points on the body but is still shaken by the attack. The figure retreats briefly and then launches into the air with a fierce overhead strike there is a moment of stillness as the student looks down to see themselves impaled on the energy blade before vanishing.

Jo’ren and Thy are in the chamber once again.



Dari says, “It seems you have at least a cursory knowledge of battle.”

OOC: Using Parry twice to reduce the damage from 18 to 14, then takes strain on the attack and dies.

The look on the student's face remained for a few seconds in Jo'ren's thoughts. Complete surprise. He had been more skilled, but still Jo'ren had won. A second son pack was jabbed into his leg and he breathed deeply of the Temple air, still alive... [Uses Second Wind to recover 1 Strain]

The big sith bowed to Dari, then rose to look her in the eye.

"Teach me, Dari Van. You have seen my potential. I will become the greatest warrior of my generation, like Exar Kun before me."

Yet even Exar Kun did not have the knowledge obtained from Koro, the weapon savant.

Day 9. Kun. Post fight strain recovery. Discipline(Willpower): 2eP+1eA 2 successes, 3 advantage

“I see no reason to delay, kill your enemy,” she gestures to Thy, “and we shall begin. All of my secrets will be yours.”

Thy blinks and says, “Please tell me this crazy sith is joking… because I really was joking about that fight to the death thing.”

OOC: Deception roll with 1 success, up to Jo'ren if he wants to betray his last remaining friend.

"I'm not sure she is Thy. Although it seems a waste given that she just lost two students."

He gave the Sith a venomous look and then turned to Thy and bowed. "I wish this had turned out any other way. You could have been happy on Nar Shadaa."

Thy nods and says, “Don’t do this Jo’ren, I really don’t want to fight you.”

“She’s lying to you, she has nothing for you.”

She raises her lightsaber, “Damn it meatbag, don’t be her pawn!”



Dari just smiles.

Emotions roiled through his mind, swelling to fill his body. Why did she have to be here? Fucking Jedi always interfering. He seethed with rage. Limitless power was within his grasp and there was only this obstacle in his way.

He believed Dari, because that was the way that Sith worked wasn't it? Sacrifice everything you hold dear just for table scraps. A slow crawl to power to make it harder to betray the one on the rung above you. Then constantly watching your back for the knife in the dark. Was that freedom?

He shook his head, wrestling with the inner turmoil. There was something standing in his way. Obstacles should be removed. Enemies were there to be killed, and he was a killer.

He was almost there, almost ready to do it when another thought popped into his head. "Do you want to be like Deathwright?" - Gerry. It was Gerry's voice. "He betrayed me, and you hate him for it. It's like, the worst thing you can imagine. Now you'll be just...like...him. Enjoy your chains."

There was a ripple of darkness and light within his soul and he gripped the twin-blade in both hands, shifting his left foot backwards and bringing his weapon into vertical alignment on his right side. He clenched his teeth until he had brought himself under control.

"I never did tell you this Thy." His golden eyes sought hers in the flickering light. "His name was Gerald Hin."

With a cry of boundless rage he turned and hurled himself at the image of Dari Van. After all, even Exar Kun once had a friend...

Jo’ren slashes through the hologram and it blinks out and the chamber is silent. “You are no slave,” a voice calls out.

“A Sith chooses their own path, their own destiny. That was the lesson I learned in this place. I wasted more time than you finding the truth. She had nothing to give but slavish devotion to scraps. I do not know your destiny, Seeker, but I am impressed by your resolve,” a figure forms walking towards Jo’ren.

“Go, you have learned a valuable lesson. One few Sith truly understand.” The dark side presence is gone.



Thy blinks and keeps her lightsaber up for a moment and then says, “Well… Darth Nice Guy, I didn’t see that coming. Are you… okay?”

She lowers her lightsaber adds, “Did you find what you were looking for?”

OOC: Jo'ren suffers 8 Conflict.

The two red blades disappeared back into the hilt as he turned his weapon off. His breathing was ragged for a few moments as he brought himself back under control.

"The spirit of Exar Kun." His skin prickled with goosebumps as the man whose tales he had been brought up on spoke to him, as an equal. He nodded to the apparition, a fierce pride in his eyes. He could have spent a lifetime chasing a false taste of power. It had been a hard choice, but it was the correct one. Eventually he turned to face Thy.

"I... Yes. I believe I did. I'm the Seeker." A thin smile flashed in her direction. "And I told you I was full of surprises."

He walked over to Thy, leaned down from his impressive height, and kissed her on the forehead. "Now for the love of the force, just call me Jo'ren." Rising again he looked around the silent chamber. "Well, you heard the man. Let's go. Actually let's see if there's anything useful lying around and then go."

Thy just looks around and says, “You know as far creepy and dark Sith sanctums, this is not totally terrible. I am totally confused by all this but I don’t think I want to ask questions.”

“Alright Jo’ren, I like the idea of leaving.”

The two search but beyond some debris and whatever was built into this place they don’t find any astounding treasures. But not all treasures are tangible.

The big sith had a smile on his face as they walked out of the creepy old temple. He had expected to find an emitter array or something, but perhaps the entire thing was just so advanced it might as well have been magic...like their friendship.

"Okay Thy, let's follow Exar Kun's fine example and get the hell out of here."

He smiled warmly at her as they made their way back outside. "You would have liked Gerry you know." He looked up at the stars and breathed in deeply of the jungle air. It felt good to be alive.

"Thank you, for, well, being there. I don't know how we're going to manage this friendship on opposite sides of a war, but we will, I can feel it. And we'll meet again." He put his big hands on her shoulders. "Take care of yourself."

“Yeah it’s a little weird, like I don’t want you to die, you know in a totally Jedi way… but I also don’t want you to kill anyone… but that is like what you do. I do agree this friendship is actually something I care about,” she says looking up at Yavin.

“Maybe that’s why I came here, but don’t you ever scare me like that again, Darth Jo’ren. Follow your path just… be careful the Sith don’t seem to mess around,” she says with concern patting his hand.

“And Jedi are not to get all affectionate so umm… here,” she stood on her tippy toes and bade him to hunch down and then kissed his cheek.

“If you tell anyone I am denying this ever happened.”

He looked at her in total surprise for a moment then gave her a big hug. Given her small stature it was kind of like a normally-sized person being hugged by a wookie.

"Your secret is safe with me. Well, I might tell HK."

Releasing her Jo'ren rose again to his full height. "Today I learned what it truly means to be Sith. Not what the Academy teaches, not what the Empire believes. My destiny is my own Thy." He gave her a slight smile. "You don't have to worry about me. I made my choice. I am free."

He sighed and flexed his neck muscles. "Okay, I guess this is it then; until next time, my friend. "

“May the force be with you,” she says with a smile and then runs off into the darkness. He hears a speeder sound not too long after going away quickly.
