This election gave the GOP majorities in both houses, the presidency, and a plum position to nominate supreme court justices - not only to backfill Justice Scalia's seat, but also any that will likely open up in the next four years.

The one silver lining is, as the party no longer in power, the Democrats can spend the next four years actively retaking seats in Congress and priming for 2020 - provided there is still a planet by 2020.

My bet is the world beyond America will suffer more because of it than America itself.

Honestly what else can be said at this time? Accepting the results of an election as the will of the people and ensuring a peaceful transfer of government is a cornerstone of democracy. Accepting that life often serves you a platter of offal but remaining engaged with it is a mark of adulthood.

Yes, the election results were not at all what I wanted, but enough of this country did want it and they'll get what they wanted. We'll try again in four years. The core principles of this country must be and will be strong enough to survive this; the President is but one person.

Sometimes, the only way for people to understand the ramifications of their choices is to see those choices play out. Four years starts Friday, January 20, 2017.

It has been a stupid, stupid year for votes and elections.

It's been a watershed year for backlash voting all around the world, the seeds sowed in 2008 with the global economic collapse are bearing bitter fruit as people have gotten over the shock of it - hence the large trend towards the status quo in 2012 but already signs of what was going to happen now.

The electorates are, by and large, confident enough now that recovery is happening but feeling left out of the windfall of recovery so there's an animate energy towards shaking up the system. That coincides with a number of darker, baser motivations as a sort of bow wave but the general core that gets "regular" folks behind these candidates the world over is that they felt themselves cut out of the action and this was their way of cutting thenselves back in.

*watches the results of the election in the financial world*

Oy vey... it's going to be worse than 2008.

Politics is the worst, and many are sad, but this is a world of Stars and Wars, let's try and be respectful for all and be a model of awesome.
