The Dark Academy on Korriban

The Spirit spoke in a cold whisper, “You don’t know me? I defied the Council, I showed them that the Code was broken. I broke these savages that call this world home. I was Lord Oshin, once in a different place known as Master Oshin Din… but this world remade me. Now finally my line returns to this world. Flesh of my Flesh.”

"Broken? How was it broken? How did you defy them?"

She wasn't sure if this was good, or bad. Maybe he was some Sith hero... or maybe he was some Sith traitor. Not that she cared much about traitors to the Sith, but having a hero for an ancestor would help her more than a traitor, she figured.

The ghost seemed confused and said, “The Jedi deemed us heretical, exiled us to this rock. Not before I killed my Master for his foolishness. We built something better, greater. Do you not see the monuments to my savagery and glory?”

He waved his hand to the desolate wastes.

She'd thought he'd meant the Sith council. If they even had one. Now there were Jedi involved? She was probably more confused than he was. At least it meant she wouldn't be executed for being the granddaughter of some traitor, right?

"I think that was a very long time ago," she said. Not seeing any monuments to his savagery and glory. "But if you're my ancestor and you conquered this place... maybe you can help me do the same?"

Yes. Maybe he could help her somehow. Give her special powers. An heirloom! There had to be some way she could even the odds with those fucking twats with all the money and noble blood.

“My line does not dominate the galaxy? I don’t understand, we were without limits. I was a true master of the Dark Side, wait you do not carry my saber? You carry nothing,” he seemed perplexed as he spoke.

"They don't give former slaves much."

Saber, huh?

"Maybe your saber is still here?"

“A slave?” the whisper was louder now.

“A SLAVE!” In a moment she could see a lifetime, a boy then training then laser swords as she put it, and a confrontation then a ship traveling through space and then masses of red skinned humanoids being cowed by laser sword wielding warriors. A great crusade and blood and then there was nothing but Spindral drawing spirals in the crimson dirt.

Spindral said, “You are listening.”

Wha--where was he? No!

"Wh... how do I call him back!? He hasn't helped me yet!"

“You and he are bound, I am sure this is not your last meeting. I had not seen him before, your arrival must have stirred him. The Force ripples outward, but does it ripple inwards? Lord Oshin, that is an old name,” he said looking at the spirals in the red sand.

“You carry the weight of ages on you.”

"He was one of the people who made the Sith?"

She'd never had a vision before. Or talked to a ghost. Much less an ancestor. It made here more... receptive... to the idea of asking questions instead of just demanding answers.

“You see the truth, the Sith were not always the Sith. They were Jedi once,” Spindral said with a smile of red blackened teeth.

“They came to this world escaping their fellows and conquered the native sith, and in time bred with them. It is an old tale.”

He started walking towards a ridge. His robe, frayed at the edges, dragging through the dirt.

She followed him.

"And got left behind. He couldn't accept it. Couldn't accept me."

“Does that pain you, Layne? Does that anger you to be rejected? No you have come here for a reason, the will of the Force is clear, the outcome is not. Even now I see the paths, you could walk many or none. Adversity is the milk of any true Sith,” Spindral said looking out over the edge.


Beyond the cliff edge was a die canyon and large jagged rocks across a gap several kilometers across. The cavern floor was a maze of smaller canyons and wastes and she could make out non-sentient wildlife moving here and there.

"I don't care about his legacy. I just thought maybe he'd help me even the odds somehow. Maybe with that saber he mentioned. Or something else. I don't know. I don't need shit for free. I've had adversity all my life, fine, whatever. I can deal. I just want... the opportunity."

She looked down at that labyrinth.

This fucking planet...

“Are you dead?” he replied.

"No," she said with a sigh, seeing exactly where he was going with it. Probably. "This is the part where you feed me some feel-good line about making my own opportunities, instead of helping me with something actually tangible, right?"

“I just wanted to make sue you were not a ghost, they can be very tricky. I once spent several weeks conversing with a woman who had been dead for centuries, I suppose her exposed ribs should have been a sign, but she was rather sociable,” he said honestly.

Lunatics! They're ALL lunatics!

She glared at him for a bit as she considered how to respond to that.

"So... does that mean you might have something tangible to help me with after all?"

She figured it was worth a shot.

“It depends what is in it for me?” he said with blackened teeth.

"The joy of helping an ancient line get re-established," she said. Yeah, she didn't think that was going to work. "Unless you had something specific in mind. That, or maybe I don't push you off the cliff. Take your pick."

He looked down and said, “That looks like a long way to fall, and I feel it may even kill me. Unless I am dead already, would that not be amusing?”

“I’m an old Sith, but I am still Sith and I hold to the old ways. I will help you.”

“In return I expect you will aid me when the time comes,” he replied harshly.

She rolled her eyes at his talk of being dead being amusing. He *was* crazy.

"If your help's useful enough, sure."

Spindral smiled and then started walking as he spoke, “The wastes have revealed many secrets to me. The tombs whisper to my bones. Korriban is my mistress and I treat her with the utmost respect and fidelity, she is easily made jealous.”

“You seek something to aid you, well I know of a thing that could aid you. A broken thing, if you can master it.”

"Alright, I'm listening. What sort of broken thing are we talking about here?"

“I believe it was a sword once,” he said calmly.

“An old Sith sword said to be indestructible. Obviously not, as the blade was broken long ago.”
