The limiter on spending advantages is that you can only select each option once.

So if you have 4 advantages, you could choose to give the next person to act a boost die and give ANY person (including yourself) a boost die to their next roll, but you couldn't choose to give ANY person (even two different people) a boost die on their next roll.

Except strain. You can recover multiple strain in one go from as many advantages as you want to use.

Yeah, if you want to see some of the advantage stuff in action you can go look at my combat against the droids. I was trying to do a couple different things here and there to figure out the system. I found that the Parry talent is...

So say, in a scene, if I roll 4 Advantages on a roll, I can say after the roll that I want to spend those Advantages into getting a Boost die on my own next roll... or for someone else's roll in that group?

Except against training sabers and other weapons set to stun. Parry/Deflect only work against things that cause wounds, since they convert wounds to strain. Kinda the down side to it, is that you can't parry a training saber, but you can -totes- parry a regular lightsaber.

Correct. You decide what you're using your advantages for after you see the result of the roll.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3DdrJ ... 8zcUE/view

That document will help you a bit. It shows what you can spend advantage (and threat) on, as well as Triumph uses.

You decide which of those results you want to use after rolling.

So if you got 4 advantages, you could give a blue to the next person to act (1 advantage), give a blue to anyone (including yourself) (2 advantages) and recover a strain (1 advantage). Or if you were attacking, you could give a blue to yourself (2 advantages) and activate a weapon quality (like blast on a grenade) (2 advantages).

so you can spend 1 to boost anyone but yourself. you can spend 2 to boost anyone including yourself. those are technically 2 different things though so you could do 3 to give someone else 2 boost dice, but not yourself because there's only one action that allows you to boost yourself.

also, parry also helps against training sabers as well, if you have parry more than once. you turn 4 strain into 3 strain. Because it reduces damage, not wounds. So less effective, but still effective.

You can spend one to boost the NEXT person to act. Two allows you to boost any person (including yourself), even if they aren't the next person to act.

Could have sworn parry only reduced wounds taken...

. . . next ALLY to act.

Or you can spend two advantage to give a targeted character (enemy by definition) a Setback dice.

Having the GMs screen is very very useful for this, as the summary table has every common use of Threat and Advantage in it.

Many of the splatbooks then have tables for specific circumstances (eg the Soldier book has spending T&A in wilderness combat, urban combat or boarding assaults).

Yes, but each round, the players choose what order they will go in during tabletop. I imagine that it will be more strict here in PbP since that would take a lot of time, but if I rolled a bunch of advantage and we had someone in the party that could ruin days with a couple boost dice the party could say "give the next person 2 boost dice and the dps will go next".

In events too? That would change much for me.

That tends to happen, actually. People stockpiling boost dice onto a hard hitter in combat so they hit harder.

Yeah, if I can do that in Events...

*looks at today's Exam Events*

Yeah, it would've been a nice use of my Advantages.

EDIT: Live and learn when it comes to using a new system! :D

I'd agree, but those are generally combat uses. I could potentially see a case for the combat test, but usually those types of advantage use are in rounds. Usually for non-rounds the advantage use is listed in the skill or applied in a narrative fashion.

Sorry, should have said. Those uses are specifically for use 'IN COMBAT'. Anything else is up to the GM according to system.

Still, it's very good in combat too. :) It gives an advantage to numbers as well, as they can throw more Boost-dice around to eachother.

Just remember. Whatever we can do with the dice . . . so can the Dapperest of Dogs.

As a regular SW GM I have seen the look of despair when I announce the next player to roll has 2 Setback dice even though I missed with my shot.

Or that "yep, that shot missed, but it scared you and you roll out into the open from behind that plasteel wall you were hiding behind...the NEXT stormtrooper lines up his shot on you."

Quite. Defense is incredibly useful in combat. Make it harder for the opponents to hit with extra setback dice.

I find the Dodge talent to be exceedingly frustrating as a GM. I encourage any one able to buy it to do so. Upgrading the difficulty of incoming attacks is even better than extra Setback dice.

Just an FYI unless you're looking for something very specific or possibly restricted 2V-R6 can get it or you can just check it out yourself.

If your looking for tombs to raid they the major ones listed it'll get you a boost die to find them. Won't do much once actually inside.

Yes. I would have bought it but the parry was more cost effective for my build. 20 more xp and I can add the Linked trait to my lightsaber attacks.

I'm looking for Death's Shadow info in the library. And then i'll probably talk to the head of security about it.
