The Earth-like exoplanet in Proxima Centauri B may be oceanic and have an atmosphere.

Now we just need wormhole technology and humans could get there someday.

Yeah I read this article. The problem is that it's too close to Proxima Centauri. Unless it has a strong magnetic field, the planet must be completly sterile because of radiation and flares from the star.

Class M stars are not very suited for us. Probably Alpha Centauri A-B system have planets that could be better for us.

I've been to Universal Studios on both coasts but not the one in Japan (yet).

We could get there with existing technology, actually. It would just be really expensive, take about 40-50 years for a one-way trip, and also be illegal under current international law because you can't have nukes in space, even if they're used for propulsion.

How many nukes to approach any sizable amount of speed of light? Plus you would need the same number to slow down. Definitely possible though.

Plus the odds of successfully navigating that ship through all the obstacles in between here and there has got to be something like 3720 to 1.

Also, speaking of Alpha Centauri, I should go visit that system in Elite Dangerous sometime... and then nope out because getting to the only station in the system would literally take like 2-3 hours in real-time to reach.



Would depend on the mass of the ship. They did some calculations way back for Project Orion. They had a couple of versions of the ship in mind, but the most plausible of that would be about 100 meters long and have a mass of 100,000 t when empty. That one would take 300,000 bombs at 1mt each to accelerate up to 3,3% of the speed of light (taking 10 days to do so at 1G constant acceleration). Then it would take 133 years to get to Alpha Centauri. Later calculations showed they could get it up to a hypothetical 10-11% the speed of light, but I have no idea how many bombs you'd need for that.

Could get very near the speed of light with an matter/anti-matter rocket, but we don't have the tech yet to produce anti-matter in significant quantities (not to mention keep it in existence for more than a minute).
