The Dark Academy on Korriban

It was the late morning, which these days meant that Jo'ren Rath could be found deep in communion with his lightsaber crystal in the Halls of Darkness mechanics laboratory. Yesterday's incredible breakthrough had encouraged him to try his hand at this process once again. So he set up his equipment, the consumables, the etching kit, and his lightsaber. Carefully he removed the crystal and focused on the force.

This time around he achieved what he had hoped for, although this time it cost him a few hundred credits for the privilege. It would be well worth it though. He could Sense the Darkside energies flowing through the sith crystal, waiting for the opportunity to maim his next opponent. Darth Vengean would be pleased with his progress.

Having completed his task he set off to find a computer terminal to look up any information on lightsabers and their construction that he might have missed before.

Day 5. LM. Modifying a crystal. Difficulty -2 due to personal lightsaber. +2 for third mod. Bonus for good equipment. Force dice as per pg 196. Destiny to upgrade: 1eA+1eP+3eD+1eB+1eF 1 success, 1 threat, 1 Dark Side


Dark side point converted to advantage; end result is 1 success. Lightsaber crystal modded: Second Vicious +1 mod added for total of Vicious +2. Cost = 300 credits.

"Hey 2V? You here somewhere?". Jo'ren raised his voice to try to attract the robot. In the meantime he went back to his favourite console and started calling up lightsaber designs. He was looking for the names of Sith who had been known for their skills in constructing these weapons.

Along comes Layne, wandering into the workshop, wondering if... perhaps... this was the place where she could personalize her lightsaber some.

The Togruta arrived a few minutes after Layne

''Good morning''

"Hey," she said, a bit surprised to see Baesal. Layne was already busy trying to figure out how to open her lightsaber up so she could get at the crystal. Totally ignoring Jo'ren.

"Ugh, how does this..."

Baesal raised an eyebrow

''That depends...what are you trying to do?''

"I want to see if I can make this crystal more... you know. More awesome."

''Oh'' she simply said

''That is a difficult process but I can give you some advice...but lets start by opening the hilt.''

She got closer and took a look at the thing

''Mmm, you should press on those two parts to open the chamber.''

"Okay..."

She popped open the hilt.

Inside there was a black crystal. An black Ilum crystal, for the discerning eye.

Now that she could see the crystal, Baesal put he goggles on to observe anything that could be seen emanating from it

''I wonderful piece indeed''

"So, now what do I do?"

''You need to take the crystal out and place it in the a furnace and the proper temperature''

She looked around spotting one that was recently used and had not cooled down.

''That one''

She moved over to it and got it working again

''It should take only a few minutes''

She seemed skeptical.

"Are you sure? If it breaks..."

''The temperature is not high enough for that.''

She turns to layne

''We simply need to make it more maleable so that we can modify it the way you want...but if you worry, I suppose I could help more directly and make the sculpting with the force while you focus on the shaping''

"We'll just go... with whatever works best."

Layne was completely out of her depth here; but she decided to trust Baesal for the moment.

I can always just kill her and take her crystal if this goes wrong

''Yes...there you go'' Baesal closed the furnace after the crystal is ready

''Congratulations Layne, the process is successful''

Phew. That had wiped out her credit balance almost completely. Seemed like such a shame. Now she wanted ALL the mods.

"Thanks," she said, and flipped the lightsaber on. Its distinct sound; higher pitched than other lightsabers; filled the room as she admired the results. Not that there was anything visibly different as far as she could tell. Maybe the pitch was a little higher? Still seemed as black as ever though

''No problems dear''

She took a towel to remove the soot from her hands and cleaned the work station

''Say...you were cleaning the wall this morning, what happened?''

She flicked the saber back off. A foul taste in her mouth suddenly.

"There was a... disagreement... over the nature of the truth."

''Someone lied and put you in trouble, then'' she simply stated

"Sure, if by trouble you mean certain death. I'm pretty sure they weren't expect me to come out alive."

That got her curious

''Can you tell me what happened? I'm very curious now''

"You ever hear of a creature made of pure shadow? With vicious claws?"

OOC: I don't see an issue with Assisting on Mods but the owner of the Lightsaber/Equipment Item has to roll.

The shadow creature is rare, it is a manifestation of dark side energy, an extreme creature and they are very powerful. They are are rare and usually form near in vergences. They are unnatural and not part of the echo system and tend to attack the living indiscriminately.
